標題: 2020 Application Announcement for Overseas Research Project Subsidies for Doctoral Students - deadline 2020/4/7

I.Purpose: NDHU has created these project subsidies to enable outstanding doctoral students enrolled at NDHU to gain international research experiences, get in sync with international research trends, expand their international research outlook, and intensify cooperation and exchanges between NDHU and international academic units in the field of joint cultivation of talent

II.Beneficiaries: NDHU full-time doctoral students with official enrollment status

III.Overseas institutions: This term shall refer to academic units that have signed cooperation agreements with NDHU and have the ability to provide guidance for research projects of doctoral students. Applicants shall not submit applications for institutions located in their home countries.

IV.	Subsidy period: 
(1)Research periods for which subsidies may be granted shall range from a minimum of three months to a maximum of one year (such periods shall no be split up or extended)
(2)Leaves from the foreign research site shall not exceed one-tenth of the total subsidy period (period of stay). Subsidy payments shall be suspended during leave periods. Where leave periods exceed one-tenth of the total subsidy period, all received subsidies shall be paid back.
(3)Subsidy recipients shall report to the foreign research institution on the designated date in the respective year as per public announcement. Recipients shall forfeit their eligibility if this time limit is exceeded. 
(4)Where applicants have received funding from external units for the same research project, they shall not be eligible to apply for subsidies pursuant to these guidelines. Where external funding is not sufficient to cover all expenses, the applicant shall disclose relevant details. Where it is detected that repeated subsidies were awarded for the same project, such subsidies shall be recovered and canceled.

V.Application procedures: 
Applicants shall submit the application form with attached certificates to the Office of International Affairs by 2020/04/07. The following documents shall be required:  
(1)Application form for subsidies for overseas research projects (see Attachment)
(2)Overseas Research Proposal (Maximum length of 25 A4 pages in Chinese or English). The following contents shall be included: 
1.Proposal abstract
2.Personal research experience and achievements in the past 5 years (Please be specific and list relevant items including concrete research results, earned grants and awards, and outstanding performance)
3.Background, purpose, research methods, and importance of the research project
4.Relevance of the projected research design for academic achievement at the overseas research institution (incl. overseas supervising professors/advisor)
5.Projected research tasks, schedules, concrete results, and relevance for future research projects
(3)Academic transcripts of Master’s and PhD programs
(4)Letter of approval for the research project issued by the overseas research institution or supervising professor/advisor (signed by the issuer)
(5)Letter of recommendation from the supervising professor/advisor.
(6)At least one academic publication related to the research project within the past five years
(7)Other relevant documents (e.g., foreign language proficiency certificates)
(8)The aforementioned application documents shall be submitted to the Office of International Affairs through e-mail in PDF format to ice@gms.ndhu.edu.tw. Applications submitted after the deadline or incomplete applications shall not be processed.

VI.Review operations: In accordance with the purpose of the project subsidies, the following items will be reviewed: Past research performance and potential of the applicant, foreign language skills, research topics, and suitability of the overseas research institutions or supervising professors/advisors. The Office of International Affairs may, at its discretion, commission experts and scholars in related fields to carry out reviews of application documents. The applicant shall be notified of the review results upon deliberation and ratification in a meeting of the International Affairs Committee. The applicant may be invited for an interview if deemed necessary.

VII.Subsidy methods and amounts
(1)Subsidies granted in accordance with these guidelines represent a scholarship for overseas research project of doctoral students. Subsidies shall be determined based on round-trip economy class ticket prices and board and lodging expenses during the overseas research period.
(2)Subsidies shall be granted for no more than 12 months per applicant in the same degree program period.
(3)Maximum monthly subsidy amount: NT$ 30,000 in Asia; NT$ 50,000 in other regions
(4)Subsidy recipients shall submit a Declaration Regarding the Selection of Doctoral Students for Overseas Research Projects (provided upon approval of applications), proof of plane ticket purchase, e-tickets, or postal passbook copies to the Office of International Affairs to request payment of 80% of the approved subsidy. The remaining 20% shall be paid upon completion of the research project and return to Taiwan in accordance with relevant regulations pertaining to case closure.

VIII.	Final budget report: Subsidy recipients shall submit a research result report which has been reviewed and approved by the supervising professor/advisor and the overseas research institution within one month upon expiry of the research period. A final budget report with attached entry and exit date certificate shall be created upon submission of the research result report in accordance with the NDHU Accounting and Auditing Procedures.
