【Taiwan – Aotearoa Connection Workshop】 The Center of International Indigenous Affairs invites you to come to a workshop on indigenous education. Under the 'Taiwan-Aotearoa Connection' project, 9 faculty members, postdoctoral fellow, staff and PhD students of the College of Indigenous Studies at National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) visited New Zealand from Oct. 28-Nov. 5, 2017. We visited Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWoA), Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi (TWWoA), University of Waikato and Auckland University of Technology and engaged in robust discussions issues of indigenous education, language and cultural revitalization. Given a history of efforts toward decolonization in New Zealand in the past 30 years, in particular through movements such as the Language Nest, Wānanga (Māori University) and immersion school establishment, Māori education experiences offered us pathways to reflect on our present situation in Taiwan. Indigenous education in Taiwan is emerging, we are at the critical juncture of retrieving our rights to educate our own kids and to position ourselves as active agents in this movement. Please come and listen to our stories of moving moments and insightful discoveries from our trip to New Zealand and share with us your thoughts on indigenous education in Taiwan.
