演講摘要

This presentation examines the case of farming in Hawai‘i, where conventional agriculture has steadily declined due to global competition. Productivist approaches have sought to boost the value of agriculture through technical innovations, such as growing fish in marine cages (mariculture); or using advances in molecular breeding techniques to promote seed industry.  These efforts, however, remain prone to appropriations by global capital while generating controversies at the local level. Our research examines an alternative approach, which values farming beyond its direct production goal, highlighting its intangible values as a vehicle for learning, for building community, and for reinforcing cultural values.

 

講者簡介

Krisnawati Suryanata 教授目前任教於夏威夷州立大學地理學系，研究專長為農業地理、政治生態與自然資源管理，目前於印尼日惹大學擔任半年的傅布萊特訪問學人。Krisnawati Suryanata 教授主要的研究在於以政治生態學的取徑，探討在全球政治經濟的脈絡下環境與地景的變化。研究的議題包括：(1) 全球市場經濟對印尼爪哇高地土地所有權及管理的影響；(2) 消費者需求、資本投資及技術發展對夏威夷及印尼農業食物系統的影響。
