講者簡介 Biography
Dr. Eric Chan is a Senior Education Development Officer of EDGE.  He received his PhD (Biology) degree from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in 2002, and both his MPhil (Medical Sciences) and BSc (Biology) degrees from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1998 and 1995 respectively.  Prior to joining EDGE, he worked as Technology Transfer Officer in the Knowledge Transfer Office and the Office of Vice-President (Research & Technology) of CityU, providing supports to academics and staff on all aspects of industry-academic collaboration and technology commercialization.  He received training in intellectual property management and patent drafting from local and overseas professional bodies.  In his capacity as Technology Transfer Officer, he counseled staff and students on IP related issues, including assessment of patentability and patent document drafting.
Eric has good experience in the field of technology transfer and commercialization.  He has closed a few dozen licensing deals and collaboration agreements relating to technologies in a wide range of industries, including biotechnology, electronic engineering, chemical engineering and information technology.   He has coached undergraduate students for technology innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialization, overseeing the entire incubation process which includes business plan drafting, fundraising, and eventual formation of startups.  One of the teams of undergraduate students founded their own startup company in 2011, which gained wide media coverage and attention, and recently graduated from HK Science and Technology Park Incubation Program.
